abstract = "The urbanization process has taken place, mostly in a disorganized
way in most of Brazil, transforming the urban environment and
nature, impacting the population. The social related to psicology
diseases and environmental impacts related to the increase of the
temperature are the most frequently reported. The phenomenon of
heat islands is one of the problems that have been studied within
the urban centers, because it directly affects the quality of life
of the population. The use of geotechnology allows the study of
different areas, including urban management and it was essential
tool for this work for the realization of the study of heat
islands. The study aimed to evaluate the applicability of thermal
infrared images Landsat 7 and thermal infrared images Landsat 8 as
surface temperature parameter and study the occurrence of heat
islands by comparing the thermal infrared images Landsat 7
February 2003 and thermal infrared images Landsat 8 February 2014.
The results suggest that thermal infrared images Landsat 7 and
thermal infrared images Landsat 8 show satisfactory applicability
and excellent tool for the study of heat islands because they are
able to perform analytical procedures and cartographic
representation that allow the understanding of the relationships
between climatic factors, the presence of green areas and built-up
                         areas.",
